This resort, originally a resting place for the inhabitants of nearby Castillos town, is a quaint and colorful clutter. Located close to km 270 of Route 10 at its intersection with palm-lined Route 16, leading to Castillos. The friendly name comes from the fact of being located on a large reservoir of freshwater, where early settlers used to dig a bit on the ground to find that fresh and crystal clear water. Coming from Route 10, the entrance to the beach resort is the tree-lined Avenue of Palafitos. Are just a few blocks to the sea, along this well maintained and picturesque street, lined with old eucalyptus.
Aguas Dulces retains its essence of a small coastal town, with its first wooden shacks on stilts (pile-dwelling) in the dunes of the beach that still defy the sea, although most of them have already been washed away. The houses were piled haphazardly, separated only by footpaths and a sinuous streets from the others. Initially, the ranches were owned by local fishermen, but then, families from Castillos town found in this site of great beaches and uninterrupted peace as the perfect place to relax on weekends and in summers.
While in summer, Aguas Dulces, like other beach resorts in Rocha, attracts thousands of tourists, it do not lose their mark of quiet village. If you like the music and go out at night, you can find bars and nightclubs, including live music. Or even if you like eating out, there are several dining options (try any of the specialties of seafood) in the food court around the main street Cachimbas y faroles (pipe and lanterns). Every night, in this charming street, one of the most popular walks in the resort, locals and tourists gather (formerly it was called Gorlerito, being equivalent to the more aristocratic Gorlero in Punta del Este).
