About km 314 of Route 9 is the beach resort of La Coronilla. This quiet and familiar corner, has a wide sandy beach, ideal for those who love golden sun and a sea that is the dream for whoever fan of fishing. La Coronilla is a quiet town, safe, with a familiar atmosphere in a privileged natural environment.

In fron of La Coronilla there are two islands that can be reached by boat: the largest is Isla Verde (Green Island) and is approximately 1500 m far from land, with lush vegetation and thick reeds and the smaller island Coronilla, named after the native tree of thorny stem so characteristic of the riverside of creeks and nearby hills, widely used for its hard wood. Living on both islands, as well as sea lions colonies, there are native birds such as lapwings, plovers and neotropic cormorants.

On the 80's, was opened Andreoni channel: a channel that allowed to gain arable land for rice, which ends at the beach of La Coronilla. Although it was very beneficial to rice farmers, initially polluted the beach with logs, branches and debris that the current carried to the beach. Workign painstakingly, they finally succeeded in improving the quality of water, until La Coronilla was officially certified as the first Oceanic Natural beach of Uruguay, with a quality that makes it perfect for sea bathing.

At the zone of cerro Verde, ranging from the Parque Santa Teresa to La Coronilla, there is a rich wildlife, among which are oystercatchers, sea lions, elephant seals, seagulls. Thus, the SNAP considered this zone one of the protected areas. The beach that covers from Canal Andreoni to the Cerro Verde is a traditional tour for the people of that town, either walking, fishing, enjoying the sun or surf.

La Coronilla is a calm town, with a slow, paced and quiet rhythm, ideal for families looking to relax far away from the noise from the other beach towns of Rocha.
