Cabo Polonio is an unique venue located at Km 264.5 of Route 10 in the department of Rocha. What characterizes this place is that it can only be reached on foot, horseback or 4x4 enabled this end. The driveway does not allow the circulation of cars and 4x4s entry is restricted to authorized transport companies and individuals resident which can only come and go, but do not circulate within the site that was recently included in the SNAP (National System of Protected Areas) as National Park. This makes it a kind of island and it is true that once you're there, you get the feeling of being separated from the world, and you quickly loosing the track of time ...

In Cabo Polonio there is no electricity, running wires that you can see on the road is fed to the Lighthouse and all its facilities. There are several accommodation options: hotels, inns, hostels and houses for rent, camping is not allowed so it is no camping there. For any of these possibilities you should make reservations in advance, since especially in January and carnival that beach site receive many visitors and fills its capacity. It has restaurants, fast food, bars and stores.

It is a place that you can explore very well on foot and it has many options for visitors: if we start such a walk from the beach of La Calavera or North beach and surrounded El Cabo, we can see the boats of fishermen, the lighthouse, all the rocky cape, filled (especially from December) of sea lions. We can admire a beautiful landscape of cliffs and houses scattered along the place and we arrive to South Beach where a sunset is never equal to another.

The nights are amazing, if you arrive in new moon time, you will see more stars than ever, and is assured to see more than one shooting star, nothing stops the running of our sight, we have got horizon in all directions. Walking along the beach north to the dunes, we arrived at the hill of Buena Vista. From there it can see Valizas and the stream, that is like being on the moon, there are rock formations contrasting with a series of bays on the shore of a sea that never fails to be present. Bird lovers can see various species since this area is mixed wetland birds, mountain birds and sea birds.

We recommend a visit quite close to Cabo Polonio is Valizas stream, a very pretty place for fishing or for making a boat ride to Mount of Ombus or just go to buy shrimp.
