Piriápolis beach resort and its surroundings offer a thousand and one possibilities to the tourist who arrives there. A walk or do not cost a penny that is the Rambla, and pretty well maintained, runs through the city and takes you to the foot of Cerro San Antonio, to the port. Illuminated at night or by day in full sun, port invites you to visit its docks to spy fishermen join the sport (more than once will be surprised with the incredible size corvinas black out there) or simply to contemplate not only the sea but also moored sailboats and yachts.
Piriápolis is surrounded by hills and it is tempting to access any of the closest for several reasons. Cerro San Antonio you can see one of the most spectacular views of the city and the sea (from the Playa Grande far beyond spa San Francisco). Today, unfortunately, the view is somewhat interrupted by the amount of construction taking place on the hillside, which has eliminated up to the viewpoints on the ascent route. It is possible to reach the summit on foot or by car, and there is also a lift (which is not always running, but that, be, is a thrilling ride). At the top there are several shops selling souvenirs, a restaurant and a small sanctuary of San Antonio where you can get to ask for a boyfriend / girlfriend (if you get to your vacation without a partner or hope) or you want another miracle. While the view is spectacular day, to contemplate a sunset from the wooden veranda or enjoy a night view of the Rambla de Piriápolis furnished lighting a scene is unforgettable and worth photographing (read the tutorial for the Club if they will shoot night) ... If you walk down or go up, do not miss a visit to the Virgin of fishermen who sail with open arms from the slope of the hill by the mariners.
Cerro del Toro is easily accessible by car to a bronze sculpture of a life-size bull. Leaves your mouth water. If you want to reach the top, there is a path that necessarily be covered on foot but it is not easy, especially if it rained before because there's mud and slips are dangerous. If you go up, the stones will have marks that indicate the way forward. If you do not follow, then do not complain. Add here that under this hill there is a nice shady park with playground and enough care Source of Venus on the hillside adjacent to camping.
Cerro Pan de Azúcar is further from the city, Route 37, a wildlife reserve and carefully climb the hill is an adventure in itself, recommended if you're with children because the children's park at the entrance to the reserve is very neat. The description made it on another of our itineraries.
One must walk at night, the promenade is the passive, with its craft fair, and can be visited (entrance is free) to hear the work of craftsmen mostly in the area. Are installed in public toilets of the old times Pirie. Every night there are one or more free shows for kids and grown-ups.
Close to the Rambla, on the first ascent of the Cerro San Antonio is the MAPI (Piriápolis Museum of Art) is a private enterprise, there is a collection of old toys in good state of preservation, some artwork and other miscellaneous items times reasonably sorted, which is worth visiting. They can also approach the Argentino Hotel, opened in 1930 and still in operation, all the services of an excellent 5 star hotel, we sum (open to the public) a bar, besides the famous casino.
And for the few coins that have pockets, when the day of beach and sun, is not a walk over to purchase souvenirs, food in the area or an option that will happen by the countless shops (open until well into am in full season) scattered along the river and adjacent. As for restaurants there is a varied gastronomic proposal that includes restaurants, bars and pizzerias in the center and along the promenade with prices within reach of all budgets (we recommend something for the low budget look first to the list prices, which is generally in the street because they can avoid a shock) or even a square meal in a supermarket with reasonable prices. But in high season, it is rare to find a place without any delay by the small number of people they serve.
Sea and sun, shopping and dining, hills and forests, the proposed Piriápolis is so wide and varied as nature, if only you were the day and caught you, you'd better get a good accommodation to relax and charge batteries to resume the journey with new energy. With this we conclude our series of itineraries Piriápolis, one of those places where there's always something new to see.
